Trips and Events

Magna Science Adventure Centre

Year 3 had a scientific adventure at Magna Centre on Thursday this week. They were able to get interactive with air, fire, water and earth! They also made volcanoes in groups and took samples of the eruptions. They had a fantastic time and would recommend a visit for all!

Trip to Nell Bank

Reception went of their very first field trip to Nell Bank. The children followed the story of The Gruffalo by exploring the woodland play area. They enjoyed lots of activities including meeting the characters and even making Gruffalo Crumble.

Despite the weather the children had a lovely time and St Oswald's are very proud of them all.

Bonfire Safety Talk

Rawdon fire service popped in on Thursday to give Year 5 a talk on bonfire safety. Unfortunately the fire officers were called to blue light emergency and we hope to see them again soon

Robinwood

Our Year 6 residential to Robinwood was once again a huge success. The children represented St Oswald's in a fantastic way throughout their 3 day trip and showed resilience and respect in abundance, despite the wet and windy weather! The staff who accompanied the children are extremely proud of all the children. Challenges were faced, fears were conquered and memories were made!

We would also like to acknowledge the lovely emails parents have sent this week and thank you all for the positive feedback, it is very much appreciated.

Year 4 and 5 PCSO visit

Students from year 4 and 5 went out with one of our local PCSO's to help monitor the speed of traffic out side of school. They watched as the PCSO spoke to drivers who were driving over 20 miles and hour and helped check the speed cameras to see how fast drivers were driving. Some of the children were even given the opportunity to sit in the police car and test the sirens

Year 6 trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Year 6 had a wonderful time at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The children enjoyed seeing the animals and learning about their habitats. The children's behaviour was brilliant, and they represented St Oswald's wonderfully. It was an excellent way to finish a superb year that the children in year 6 have had.

Leeds Children's Mayor Summit

On Wednesday 4th June a group of Year 5 children attended the Leeds Children’s Mayor Summit at Leeds Civic Hall. This event allowed the children to interact with other Year 5 children from across Leeds who are interested in becoming the next Leeds Children’s Mayor.

The current Leeds Children’s Mayor, Esosa, gave them helpful tips for writing their manifesto and described in detail and with great enthusiasm what the role would involve. We also met the Lord Mayor of Leeds who was able to answer plenty of the questions that the children were eager to ask.

This summit helped to inspire and build confidence in our young people and showed the importance of the influence they can have within Leeds and how to make a positive difference for the young people in the city.

Year 1 trip to Harlow Carr

Year 1 had a brilliant trip on Monday to Harlow Carr. They enjoyed taking part in a workshop learning about the trees in our country. They had to work in a group to identify different trees and take a bark rubbing. They found out that they could work out the age of a tree by measuring the width of a tree and solving a calculation. They also enjoyed bug hunting and identifying what they found. Finally we had some time to play in a play park and enjoy the beautiful plants and wildlife.

Year 3 trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Year three had a fantastic day at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Both classes took part in an explore, walk, talk, and make workshop where we learnt about different artists and got the opportunity to sketch and make our own clay sculptures. We also had a great time walking around the park and seeing lots of incredible sculptures. The trip has really brought to life our previous art topic and inspired lots of children to make their own sculptures at home. It was a fantastic day, the children were enthusiastic, polite and were a credit to the school.

School Council visit

A wonderful opportunity for pupils of our school to learn and engage in activities regarding what Leeds are doing around the climate and environment.

They met the Leeds children’s mayor, sat in the council chambers and asked lots of important questions.

A fun and interesting day was had!
