Well Done Aspen Class

Aspen class had a lovely afternoon playing in the local park on Wednesday with school made buns and ice lollies. The class had got the highest attendance this summer term and this was a little treat for doing so well!

Good Attendance is so important at school not only just for learning but forming those all important social skills and relationships with peers and adults around them and above all embracing school life to the max! Well done Aspen class. Miss Willis was delighted.

Goodbye Year 6

It's been quite a week of celebrations for Year 6 as we bid goodbye to St Oswald's and look forward to pastures new. We kick-started the week with our production of 'School-O-Vision Song Contest' where the Year 6's wowed both pupils, staff and parents with their incredible performances, amazing singing and faultless technical ability. We shared memories and thanked the school for all it had given us during our School Leavers Service at St Oswald's Church, led by Father David. And we put on our glad rags and partied the night away at the phenomenal and very sparkly prom organised wonderfully by the PFG and Year 6 parents.

Thank you so much to all parents for your support over the year. We are so proud of how far they have come, and we wish them lots of luck for the future!

Year 6 Tree Planting

Year 6 have been planting fruit trees as part of their Leavers project. Each year Year 6 plant a tree as part of their St. Oswald's Legacy. This is just the beginning of our Orchard area' that will hopefully inspire children and flourish for years to come.

PATnic

This year school have been very fortunate to have Liz and Pepper the Therapy Dog coming in each Friday from the charity ‘Pets as Therapy - PAT’ to spend time with the children and listen to them read. Every child across the entire school has had this wonderful opportunity.

Today we held the 'PATnic' on the school playground and all children that took part thoroughly enjoyed this experience!

Pepper even managed to sneak a few treats for being such a lovely support for the children. So far, we have raised an amazing £400.20 for this fantastic cause, thank you for all of your support.

Year 6's Trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park

This Monday, Year 6 had a fantastic time exploring Yorkshire Wildlife Park, where we were uniquely blessed with some glorious weather. The children learned (and shared) many facts about animals and their habitats as we saw some of the most rare and endangered animals from across the globe, including leopards, tigers, black rhinos, and most excitingly the largest collection of Polar Bears in Europe. It was a wonderful way to celebrate all the hard work the children have put in this year.

Well Done Zita!

Zita's Ballet team won the 3rd medal in the World Cup, they are top 3 of the World in the Dance Cup!

This is an unbelievable result and we are all so proud. Congratulations Zita!!

Leeds Children’s Mayor Finalist

We are delighted and very proud to share with you that Micah in Y5 has been chosen as one of the final 12 candidates for Leeds Children’s Mayor! The Leeds Children’s Mayor project is something that Year 5 enter every year with the support of Mrs Coates. Micah’s entry was chosen to represent the school and was then selected by the Lord Mayor and her advisors to go through to the final ballot. Children from Y2 upwards will be voting at school on Wednesday but anyone under 18 can vote so children in Nursery, Reception and Year 1 can use the QR code to do this – and can share with their family and friends to help Micah become this year’s Children’s Lord Mayor! You can see Micah’s brilliant entry and the QR code for how to vote below. Voting opens on July 19th.

Here are a few of Micah’s great ideas, which he focused on improving well-being and mental health support for young people in Leeds:

  • Make more youth groups where people can just relax and talk to others like them. It is a lot easier to share feelings this way, since people might be struggling and no one knows.
  • Train parents to help their children when they are struggling with their mental health. This could be done by having meetings run by people who understand mental health, like a counselor, and leaflets with helpful information. It would be good for parents to practice looking after their own mental health too.
  • Make designated areas for children to exercise without being at risk, and have equipment provided for this, e.g. bicycles, roller skates/blades, skateboards. When they do this, it could be outside in nature too, as this make people feel better and thankful.

Congratulation's St Aidan's

Throughout the course of the school year, our children work hard to win house points by behaving in way that aligns with our school values.
This year St Aidan's House have been working extremely hard and therefore they have won the End of Year House Cup, alongside a school disco one afternoon next week. Attendance to the school disco is optional.
Well done St Aidan's House!

Preschool Mini Sports Day!

Preschool took part in their first ever Sports Day and had so much fun!

They each took part in the sack race, egg and spoon race, dressing up race and the overwhelming favourite... welly wanging! They worked cooperatively in teams and enjoyed cheering each other on. The children also loved that so many grown-ups joined in with the adult egg and spoon race. Thank you all so much to all those who attended, you all helped to make it really special for the children!

Year Three's Trip to Robin Hood's Bay

This term Year 3 have been learning all about the UK coast! In our Geography and English lessons, we prepared for our trip to the seaside by looking at different coastlines and comparing natural beauty areas and those with a human influence. We are currently planning our adverts to persuade visitors to go Robin Hoods Bay and now that we have actually gone there we have become experts! We had a fantastic time exploring rock pools, collecting shells and stones and eating ice cream yesterday!
