Teaching & Learning

At St Oswald’s children learn through a rich and varied curriculum. It is our belief that every child matters, therefore we use a variety of teaching styles to ensure that all children have full access to the National Curriculum; thus ensuring that they leave our school as well rounded individuals, achieving their potential both academically and socially.

The school offers an excellent learning environment with facilities that include a very well-maintained building and extensive school grounds including the forest school, two playgrounds and a large sports field. We always strive to deliver inspiring and innovative teaching to the highest standards, utilising a rich range of resources including IT to enable the children to engage most effectively with their learning.

Meta-cognition

Children at St Oswald’s are actively taught how to process thoughts and feelings. This ability encourages students to understand how they learn best. It also helps them to develop self-awareness skills that become important as they grow.

Homework

We believe that our wonderful children work incredibly hard when they’re at school. We don’t believe that doing an enormous amount of homework is in their best interests. In fact, we’d love it if the majority of their free time was spent doing lovely things.
