Rotary Club's Young Artist Competition
A big thank you to all of our artists who entered the Rotary Club's Young Artist Competition this month. Judging has taken place this week and members of our local club reported how impressed they were with your creations and that judging was particularly difficult.
Here is a wonderful water creation example from Evie in Year 1. Well done to all those who entered from St Oswald's, the certificates and outcome of the competition will be shared by the end of next week. Good luck!
Y3 Stone Age Forest School Afternoon
In Year 3, we have been learning all about the Stone Age in our history unit this half term and have been very lucky to take this opportunity to take part in Stone Age activities in our forest school. We cooked berries on a firepit, made weapons and tools using stones and sticks, we painted with berries and leaves and left handprints on cave walls. We also had a cave/hut that we were able to role play Stone Age living, we built secure dens to hide in from predators and even hunted prehistoric animals that we found amongst the trees! Happy memories were made in our first half term in Year 3!
Y1 in Forest School
This term, our Year 1 students have been having a fantastic time at Forest School, diving into the wonders of nature and celebrating the beauty of autumn. Each session has been packed with activities that not only spark creativity but also foster teamwork and a love for the outdoors.
Autumn Spirit in Full Swing
As the leaves began to change, our children embraced the season with some autumn-themed crafts. One of their favourite activities was printing pumpkins using apples! In addition to pumpkin printing, our little explorers have enjoyed rolling conkers—an exciting way to connect with nature and learn about these fascinating seeds. The children delighted in observing the conkers, discussing their shiny shells and what they might find inside.
Muddy Delights in the Kitchen
Recently, we were thrilled to receive some old trays from the kitchen, which have become a fantastic addition to our mud kitchen! The children wasted no time in transforming them into bustling little eateries, whipping up imaginative school dinners in the mud. From mud pies to vegetable soups the culinary creativity has been incredible. This hands-on play not only encourages imaginative thinking but also reinforces the importance of cooperation as they share tools and ideas.
As we continue to explore the outdoors across the year groups, we are excited for more adventures and discoveries in the coming weeks. Thank you for your support in encouraging our children’s love for nature and play. We look forward to sharing more stories from our Forest School journey!
Year 3 Art Week
In Year 3 we have been thinking about how to create waves, ripples and bubbles in our ocean paintings. We used different methods to create the movement of the sea. We will use these paintings to create a whole year group piece combining paint and recycling to showcase our theme of marine conservation!
Year 2 Printing
Year 2 are learning all about different printing in art. We were printing with everyday materials and making our own stencils.
