Remembrance Day Celebration

A group of Year 6 children joined the community Remembrance Day Celebration at the cenotaph on Monday. All the local schools came together to remember those who have served their country including those who continue to risk their lives in military service across the world. We placed some poetry poppies at the cenotaph which are still there if anyone would like to see them.

Diwali Workshop

Year 3 and 6 took part in a Diwali workshop. They learned about Diwali and the story of Rama and Sita through dance. They all enjoyed learning the story and retelling it through a dance they created together.

Well Done Choir Club!!

St Oswald's Choir had an amazing time singing at Yeadon Morrisons on Monday. They raised a whopping £255.32 in just over an hour for Children in Need.

They sounded beautiful and the public absolutely adored them. Well done Choir!

Year 2 Outdoor Classroom Day

Year 2 enjoyed spending lots of time outside yesterday to celebrate Outdoor Classroom Day! We used natural materials to represent numbers on a tens frame, collected materials to make journey sticks and had lots of fun playing in the forest school area!

Y3 Stone Age Forest School Afternoon

In Year 3, we have been learning all about the Stone Age in our history unit this half term and have been very lucky to take this opportunity to take part in Stone Age activities in our forest school. We cooked berries on a firepit, made weapons and tools using stones and sticks, we painted with berries and leaves and left handprints on cave walls. We also had a cave/hut that we were able to role play Stone Age living, we built secure dens to hide in from predators and even hunted prehistoric animals that we found amongst the trees! Happy memories were made in our first half term in Year 3!

Reading Buddies

This afternoon was Year 2 and Year 5's first Reading Buddies session. Reception and Year 3 also had their first Reading Buddies session.

All the children listen and read to each other beautifully!

Y1 in Forest School

This term, our Year 1 students have been having a fantastic time at Forest School, diving into the wonders of nature and celebrating the beauty of autumn. Each session has been packed with activities that not only spark creativity but also foster teamwork and a love for the outdoors.

Autumn Spirit in Full Swing
As the leaves began to change, our children embraced the season with some autumn-themed crafts. One of their favourite activities was printing pumpkins using apples! In addition to pumpkin printing, our little explorers have enjoyed rolling conkers—an exciting way to connect with nature and learn about these fascinating seeds. The children delighted in observing the conkers, discussing their shiny shells and what they might find inside.

Muddy Delights in the Kitchen
Recently, we were thrilled to receive some old trays from the kitchen, which have become a fantastic addition to our mud kitchen! The children wasted no time in transforming them into bustling little eateries, whipping up imaginative school dinners in the mud. From mud pies to vegetable soups the culinary creativity has been incredible. This hands-on play not only encourages imaginative thinking but also reinforces the importance of cooperation as they share tools and ideas.

As we continue to explore the outdoors across the year groups, we are excited for more adventures and discoveries in the coming weeks. Thank you for your support in encouraging our children’s love for nature and play. We look forward to sharing more stories from our Forest School journey!

'Now Press Play' - Y5

This week, year 5 continued to learn about the historic Anglo-Saxon lifestyle using our immersive 'Now Press Play' headphones.

Year 4 Theatre Workshop

Year 4 children took part in a workshop delivered by a team from Leeds Heritage Theatres where we learned all about the theatre in Ancient Greece. Not only did we learn all about the terminology around the stage but we also had a chance to take part as actors. From pulling faces inspired by the Greek character masks to acting out Greek tragedies and comedies, everyone had a lot of fun and learned a lot about performance.

Y6 Boys - St Oswald's vs Yeadon Westfield

Last week, our U11 boys team started their season with a 3-1 win against Yeadon Westfield. The boys showed excellent perseverance and a wonderful skill set to beat a tough opposition.

As always, they represented school in a magnificent manner. We look forward to more training sessions and games in the near future.
