Guiseley Carnival
Thank you to everyone that supported us and Guiseley carnival. We loved seeing the children in the parade and performing on the field and were so lucky with the weather this year. The school raised £750 on the cake stall and the PFA raised £737 on the Bottle stall. Thank you again to everyone that donated cakes and bottles and time. It is very much appreciated!
Get Framed
Our 'Get Framed' competition was a fantastic success! We had over 50 entries and had the opportunity to have an expert to help judge and award the winning pupils. Lizzie has a studio in Guiseley called Luminosa and she kindly offered to support this years competition.
Well done to all those who entered - the talent was impressive!
The winner - Milo Allen in Year 5 for his black and white up-shot of the sky through the trees.
Runner up KS2 - Ella Street in Year 3 for her close up of a swan family.
Runner up KS1 - Sienna Murray for her square print of an interesting flower.
Keep being inspired by the nature around you and take photos or drawings of those wow moments!
MNDA Fundraiser
Two of our students, Charlie and Daisy, worked incredibly hard at the MNDA Rob Burrow Memorial Rideout. The two of them spent the day selling raffle tickets and collecting donations. Together they raised £450!
Well done to both of you, St Oswald's and your parents are very proud.
Year 6 trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Year 6 had a wonderful time at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The children enjoyed seeing the animals and learning about their habitats. The children's behaviour was brilliant, and they represented St Oswald's wonderfully. It was an excellent way to finish a superb year that the children in year 6 have had.
Year 5 Cup Win!
Last week, our Year 5 boys team started their cup run with an emphatic 9-1 victory. They played fantastically showing excellent level of skills and huge levels of perseverance. They won with modesty, with a couple of children congratulating the other team when they scored their goal - a wonderful display of sportsmanship. Up next for the St Oswald's sports teams, Year 6 boys football, also playing their first round in the cup!
A huge thanks goes out to PC Sports for providing our school with our wonderful new kit!
Morrisons Tour
On Wednesday, Holly class went on a tour of Morrisons to learn about where our food comes from. This was led by Morrisons Community Champion, Sharron. The children visited all the different areas of Market Street including the fishmongers, the bakery and the cheesemonger. Sharron very kindly donated a basket of fruit to take back to school and we had a fun afternoon tasting different fruit from South Africa, Peru and Spain! All the children represented our school brilliantly. Rowan class are looking forward to going on Monday!
Rotary Club's Young Artist Competition
A big thank you to all of our artists who entered the Rotary Club's Young Artist Competition this month. Judging has taken place this week and members of our local club reported how impressed they were with your creations and that judging was particularly difficult.
Here is a wonderful water creation example from Evie in Year 1. Well done to all those who entered from St Oswald's, the certificates and outcome of the competition will be shared by the end of next week. Good luck!
Disgusting Sandwiches
Year 2 made their own disgusting sandwiches in forest school! We were inspired by the story 'The Disgusting Sandwich' and in English we are writing instructions on how to make our own disgusting sandwich.
Year Five Trip to the Theatre
Year Five had a wonderful trip visiting Alhambra Theatre to watch Pinocchio, the children behaved very well and had a lovely time.
Speed Awareness
This week PCO Megan came into school to teach the children in Aspen Class about speed awareness. The children stood outside our school checking the speedometer as cars drove by to see whether they were within the speed limit. Those who were received a thumbs up by the children and those who were over the limit received a thumbs down!
The children enjoyed this activity and had fun whilst learning about the importance of staying within the speed limit.
