SUMMARY:Simon on the Streets Sponsored Walk
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, December 13th\, the whole school will be participating in a charity walk round Guiseley. Children are welcome to collect sponsorship for the event\, which will be in collaboration with Simon on the Streets\, a Leeds-based charity who provide support for homeless people across the city.  This charity has been chosen as part of our bid to inspire children to be courageous advocates for groups of people whose voice may not always be heard.    \nThe walk will start at school and then use the old railway track through to Kirk Lane and back through Nunroyd Park. Reception and Year 1 will do an alternative walk in Springfield Park and Year 2 will do an amended version of the longer walk.  The length of the full walk is 3.5 miles.  Children should come to school on the day in appropriate clothing and shoes\, with a water bottle which can be ideally carried in a rucksack. They may bring a snack for the route. Simon on the Streets will be providing every child with an elf hat!  \nWe would be grateful of volunteers to marshall the walk (in shifts as the event will be staggered across the day) to stand at various checkpoints on the route to monitor when groups pass\, and also volunteers to accompany classes on the walk itself. If you are able to assist in this\, please email the office for the attention of Miss Brown.  \nWe hope that this will be fun and challenging activity for the children to participate in\, and we can once again support this local charity in the work they do across Leeds. As this walk is within the local area\, permission is assumed. DESCRIPTION:This half term\, Year 6 are studying the Mystery of the Maya. As the fabulous finish to our topic\, we have organised a full day Maya workshop run by Past Productions Education which are specialists in historical theatre. During the day\, the children will be involved in a presentation about artefacts\, daily life\, and the creation story. They will also take part in chocolate testing and a drama session which looks at death rituals\, sacrifices\, Pok-A-Tok\, Alux\, chocolate and farming. The day will then finish with the Big Maya Quiz! We hope that this will be an inspiring and exciting day for the children and a great way to consolidate their Maya Civilisation learning. \nThe Maya workshop will take place on Monday 12° December during the normal school hours. SUMMARY:Walking Nativity
DESCRIPTION:This year we are planning a slightly different Nativity experience for parents and carers to enjoy. We are going to\nhold a walking nativity\, for children from year 1-6\, on Thursday 8″ December. A walking Nativity involves\nvisitors taking a route around the school grounds\, seeing different scenes from the Christmas Story and listening to\nsongs as they pass. It allows us to involve every class in our performance. Reception have their own Nativity\nhappening on a different date but will have the opportunity to share in the walking nativity also. \nPerformances will alternate between the classes so please check when your child is scheduled to perform.\nThe route and timings will be as follows: \nYear 3 will kick start the nativity and will be positioned on the KS1 playground as you enter the gates and walk toward the main hall. \nYear 2 will be positioned around the back of school\, next to the reception playground. \nYear 1 will be a little further along\, on the KS2 playground\, where the year 4 children leave school. \nYear 5 will be positioned outside the school grounds on the way up to St Oswald’s church. \nYear 4 will be positioned on the church grounds \nYear 6 will be the final part of our walking nativity and based inside the church. \n9.20-10.00am\nElm\, Holly\, Aspen\, Lime\, Beech\, Oak \n10.00-10.40am\nAsh\, Rowan\, Hawthorn\, Cedar\, Willow\, Sycamore \nRefreshments will be available in church throughout the performance\, for you to enjoy once you have visited the final scene. \nThank you for your support and we hope you enjoy the event. \nJill Broadwell\nRE and Collective Worship Lead
